Track & Field Competes in NYC at Met Championships

NYU women finish 12th, men 10th

New York University's men's and women's track and field teams competed in New York City for the first and only time this outdoor season at the Metropolitan Championships, which took place at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island on Friday and Saturday, April 8-9.

The Violet women placed 12th out of 15 teams while the men took a 10th-place finish in the 15-team field. NYU was one of two Division III programs, along with Ramapo College, to compete in the Championships; every other team was from Division I. Both the NYU men and women finished ahead of Ramapo in the team standings.

Women's Highlights
  • Madi Richardson set a personal record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.82 seconds.
  • Isre'al Conerly placed fourth in the 400m, crossing the finish in 59.24 seconds.
  • A pair of runners notched personal bests in the 800-meter run: Ashley Lai (2:29.00) and Jaylyn Wagner (2:34.56).
  • Jessica Allen finished fourth in the 5k, missing her PR by less than a second with a time of 19:09.57. Kate Gallagher secured a personal best in the event, completing the race in 19:24.91. She topped her previous PR by nearly five whole seconds.
  • Ezri Scott took third place in the high jump with a 1.52-meter showing.
  • Richardson also competed in the javelin throw, posting a PR of 25.07 meters. Kiera Gainer made her javelin debut, taking seventh with a 23.32-meter toss.
  • Gainer delivered a PR in discus with a 29.15-meter result.
Men's Highlights
  • Zion Glover posted personal records in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. He crossed the 100m finish line in 10.85 seconds and recorded a 22.33-second time in the 200m.
  • Brian Kaiserman (22.41) and Kristian Zadlo (22.94) also had personal bests in the 200m.
  • David Obwaya tied his personal record in the 400-meter hurdles, completing the race in 60.48 seconds.
  • Brett Asay placed fourth in the 800m run, missing his PR by less than a second with a time of 1:56.80.
  • Juan Ochoa took fifth in pole vault with a 3.65-meter showing.
  • The Violets were well represented in the javelin throw: Chad Belick placed second (45.34m), Owen Mountford third (44.61m), Rudra Amin fifth (42.50m) and Marc Santonocito eighth (37.71m). Mountford's throw was a new personal record.
  • Michael Mangual took eighth in shot put, delivering a 13.25-meter throw. He and Santonocito also set PRs in the hammer throw with 39.98 and 35.75-meter results, respectively.
  • Zadlo (30.24m) and Paul Ioffreda (33.86m) both notched personal bests in discus.
Next Up

NYU's distance runners will compete at Connecticut College's Silfen Invitational on Friday, April 15, while the speed and power athletes will participate in Widener University's Chester Quarry Classic on Saturday, April 16.
