Emory University carried its momentum from yesterday to defeat New York University's baseball team, 5-0, at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles (17-12, 4-4 UAA) took three out of four from NYU (14-4, 4-4 UAA) in the Violets' lone home University Athletic Association (UAA) series this season.
How It Happened
- NYU starter Ashwin Chona struck out the side in the first inning, but Emory plated three runs in the second on run-scoring hits from Jack Masonis and Brock Liu.
- Neither team scored for the next five innings as Chona and Emory starter Tyler McLoughlin settled in on the mound.
- The Violets threatened in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out rally, but stranded runners on second and third.
- An RBI single off the bat of Robby Wacker and a one-run double from Jack Halloran gave the Eagles a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.
For the Violets
- Connor Roggero went 1-for-4 with a stolen base as one of two Violets to record a hit in the loss.
- Zane Baker was the second Violet with a hit, finishing 1-for-3 with a steal of his own.
- Chona had a solid start on the mound, going six full innings while allowing three runs on just two hits. He walked three and struck out six.
- John Gassler tossed the final three frames, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks with a trio of strikeouts.
