Coming off a season-opening sweep of Stevens yesterday, the New York University softball team traveled to the University of Scranton for a doubleheader, playing its first road games of the season.
NYU fell twice to the Royals, despite putting up seven runs in game one. Scranton won 12-7 to start the day and took the second game 10-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Scranton 12, Violets 7
- NYU opened the scoring in the top of the first on an Erin Scott sac fly that brought home Sophia Leon. The hosts responded immediately, playing two runs in the bottom half to jump on top 2-1 after one.
- The Violets tacked on four runs in the third to regain the lead, all coming with two outs. Kalena Parades hit an RBI single up the middle and Madi Hand slapped a two-run single through the left side as NYU led 5-2 entering the bottom of the third.
- Scranton tied the score in their half of the third and posted five more runs in the fourth to build an insurmountable advantage, despite a two-run home run from Hand in the sixth.
Game Two: Scranton 10, Violets 1
- Scott ripped an RBI double to right center, scoring Parades, to put NYU ahead in the top of the first. A Scranton sac fly then tied the game in the bottom half.
- NYU held the Royals scoreless in the second, fourth and fifth, but five Scranton runs in the third—and four more in the sixth—ensured the sweep.
