The New York University Men's Basketball season came to an end on Sunday, but not before senior forward
Bobby Hawkinson joined an exclusive club.
His layup with 12:17 left in the first half was his fourth point of the game and the 1,000th of his career, becoming the 31st player in program history to reach that lofty height.
"I'm proud of Bobby for his outstanding achievement," said Head Coach
Dagan Nelson. "His growth and transformation on and off the court has been incredible to see."
Hawkinson finished the game with 13 points as the Violets (14-11, 4-10) concluded their season with a 74-57 University Athletic Association (UAA) loss to Brandeis University (15-9, 6-7) in Waltham, MA.
NYU's
Nikola Lipovic scored the game's first basket, but the Judges scored the next 12 points to take a quick lead.
The Violets battled back as
Alex Maticiuc's layup with just over five minutes left in the half gave NYU a 28-24 lead.
However, the home team scored the next 15 points to take a 39-28 halftime advantage.
Cinque Stephens' two free throws midway through the second half brought NYU within two, 46-44. But, Brandeis countered with a 19-0 run to take a game-high 21-point lead and NYU never got closer than 16 the rest of the way.
"Not the result we obviously wanted today, but proud of our players for posting the program's first winning season in six years," Nelson added.
The Violets last posted a winning season in 2015-16 (21-6).
