#10 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Bard in UVC Opener

Violets Win 25-20, 25-18, 25-20

New York University's #10-ranked Men's Volleyball Team opened its United Volleyball Conference (UVC) schedule on Friday, February 11, sweeping Bard College at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.

The Violets won by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 as senior captain James Haag led the way with 17.5 points and NYU improved to 4-3 (1-0 UVC) in 2022.

NYU raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first but Bard (4-4, 0-2 UVC) stuck around, climbing back to tie the score at 20 after a Violet error. NYU scored the final five points of the set, however, to pull ahead 1-0 overall.

Bard scored the first point of the second but NYU never trailed after that, closing the frame on a 6-1 run to set itself up for the sweep.

Set number three was close throughout as the Raptors used four unanswered points in the middle of the frame to take a 16-15 lead. The Violets then outscored Bard 10-5 over the remainder of the set with a kill from Luke Boyer securing the victory.

"It was a good conference win," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "Our first-year players got a little more experience on the court. Overall, it's a good win. We were not totally playing at our best, but we pulled it off no matter what because we have a very talented squad."
