Strong Showing for Track & Field at Ramapo Opener

Violets Complete Second Meet of 2022

The New York University Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams continued their 2022 campaigns on Friday, January 21, at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory in Manhattan. NYU competed against many NYC-area programs at the Ramapo Opener, hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey.

Men's Highlights
  • Kristian Zadlo (River Forest, IL/Oak Park-River Forest) won the men's pole vault with a 4.10-meter finish, giving the Violets their first event victory of the 2022 indoor season.
  • Ryan Tobin (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) was the third runner to cross the finish in the men's mile. His time of 4:17.55 is the fastest in the University Athletic Association (UAA) this season and converts to 12th-best nationally.
  • Jon Diaz (Brookline, MA/Brookline) placed seventh in the 600-meter (1:24.26) in his season debut. Teammate Brett Asay (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) was right behind him in eighth, clocking in at 1:24.38.
  • Michael Mangual (Hoboken, NJ/Saint Peter's Prep) collected a fourth-place finish in the men's weight throw with a 13.34-meter toss.

Women's Highlights
  • Camryn Menninger (Winchester, MA/Winchester) picked up where she left off during cross country season, coming in second in the women's 3K. Her 10:14.37 time is also the fastest in the UAA this season and converts to 13th-best in the nation.
  • Isre'al Conerly (Los Angeles, CA/St. Mary's Academy) notched a second-place finish as well, doing so in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.27.
  • Oni Scott (Frederick, MD) finished fourth in the women's high jump after a 1.52-meter showing.
  • Katherine Cheng (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) was sixth in the women's mile, completing the race in 5:23.66.

The Violets continue the indoor season next Saturday and Sunday, January 28-29, at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University.
