The New York University baseball team split its University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader with visiting Emory University on Saturday, April 27, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
The Violets (21-11, 6-8 UAA) won the first game 7-4, but dropped the nitecap to the Eagles (20-17, 8-6) by the score of 8-5.
Gabriel Golob started on the mound for the Violets in game one and turned in his best effort of the season, pitching into the eighth inning to improve to 5-1 this season.
Emory broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but NYU quickly answered with three in the home half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. The Eagles tied the contest in the fifth, but the Violets answered once again, tacking on three in the bottom of the fifth to go back in front.
NYU led 7-4 as Emory threatened in the eighth, but closer
Joseph Prisco came on to record the final out of the inning and tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his ninth save of the season.
Offensively,
Chris Cassandra led the Violets with a pair of hits, while
Jack Elias knocked in two runs.
Emory jumped out to a quick lead In game two and the Violets never caught up.
Sal Cammisuli pitched into the seventh inning for NYU, but suffered the loss.
Ryan McLaughlin went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, a double, triple and stolen base.
Colman Hendershot also had two RBIs, a double and a stolen base.
The Violets and Eagles are scheduled to complete their four-game series on Sunday with another doubleheader at MCU Park. First pitch of game one is slated for 9:00am.
