The New York University baseball team broke a 5-5 tie with one run in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth to defeat SUNY Plattsburgh on Wednesday, March 20, at the New York Yankees Minor League Spring Training Complex in Tampa, FL.
Colman Hendershot drew a bases loaded walk to put NYU (9-2) ahead in the seventh and then
Jack Elias singled home two runners in the eighth to give the Violets insurance and help lead them to their second win in as many days against the Cardinals (2-8).
NYU led 2-0 after three innings and 4-1 through five, but Plattsburgh St. tied the game at 5-5 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Gabriel Golob started for NYU and tossed 7.0 innings, which is a team-high this season. The sophomore is now 3-0 as he struck out four, while scattering four hits and allowing three earned runs in his third start of the season.
Paul Gadaleta relieved Golob and pitched a scoreless eighth, before handing the ball to
Joseph Prisco who didn't allow a run in the ninth en route to his fourth save of the season.
Elias and
Grant Berman led the Violets with three hits in five at bats, while
Jack Walter recorded a pair.
Coltrane Tait and Elias each finished with two RBI in Wednesday's win.
NYU will return to action on Thursday, March 21, when it takes on the Illinois Institute of Technology. First pitch is slated for 3pm on Field 2 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field Complex.
