The New York University men's basketball team suffered a 73-54 setback to host Washington University in St. Louis in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, February 15, in St. Louis, MO.
WashU improved to 15-8 on the season and 8-4 in UAA action, while the Violets' record now stands at 7-16 and 1-11 in Association play.
The Bears led 30-23 at halftime and scored the first seven points of the second half to go ahead by 14, but the Violets didn't go away.
NYU answered the WashU run with 12 of the next 14 points and trailed by just four, 39-35, with 14:36 remaining.
The Violets were unable to get any closer, however, as the Bears shot 69.2% (18-of-26) in the second half and eventually coasted to the double-digit victory.
Matt Nester was 6-of-9 from three-point-range for WashU and helped the Bears pull away in the second half after scoring 16 points after halftime. He finished with a game-high 22 points and was joined in double figures by Jack Nolan (16 points) and Marcus Meyer (11 points).
Bobby Hawkinson was NYU's leading scorer on Friday as he tallied 17 points to go along with eight rebounds.
The Violets return to action when they head to Chicago on Sunday, February 17, for their final road game of the regular season against the University of Chicago. Tip-off is slated for 12pm (CT) at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center.
