The New York University women's volleyball team completed play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, November 9, in Chicago, IL. The Violets fell to Case Western Reserve University in three sets and finished in sixth place in the eight-team tournament.
After splitting its two matches on Friday, the Violets (25-7) fell by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 29-27 to the Spartans (12-16) on Saturday.
Following a close first set, NYU was never able to get ahead in the second. The Violets did score the first five points of the third set, but CWRU battled back from behind to earn the 29-27 victory.
"Today was a grind for our team," said Head Coach
Andrew Brown. "But, we put a lot of effort and energy into the third set and just came up a bit short."
Maddie DeJong (Houston, TX/Second Baptist School) (15) and
Abby Ausmus (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day School) (10) produced double-digit kills for the Violets.
Jacqueline Kupeli (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) had a team-high 17 digs, while
Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) led the way with 28 assists.
"We now look forward to awaiting the announcement of a possible ECAC bid and pushing for a postseason run," Brown explained.
Today's match ended the Violets' 2019 regular-season schedule. The team will now await word on a potential postseason ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Tournament bid.
