The New York University women's basketball team suffered a 70-49 setback to host Emory University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, January 27, in Atlanta, GA.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 13-5 overall and 4-3 in UAA play, while NYU slipped to 10-7 on the season and 2-5 in UAA contests.
The Violets led 14-10 after the first quarter. But, Emory bounced back by outscoring NYU by 11 in the second quarter to take a 29-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Eagles led by 13 midway through the third quarter, but a late Violets' run cut the deficit to six heading into the fourth quarter.
However, in the final quarter it was all Emory as the hosts scored the first seven points of the frame and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
The Eagles led by 22 late until a free throw from
Janean Cuffee made the final margin 21.
Cuffee led all scorers with 19 points and was joined in double figures by
Olivia Linebarger, who finished with a season-high 14.
Ashley Oldshue led four Eagles in double figures with 15 points.
NYU returns to the court for another UAA contest when it hosts the University of Rochester at 6pm on Friday, February 1, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan. Friday's game will be part of the Violets' third-annual Pride Night;
