The New York University men's basketball team suffered a 97-75 setback to host Emory University in University Athletic Association action on Sunday, January 27, in Atlanta, GA.
Dom Cristiano scored a game- and career-high 37 points for the Violets (6-12, 0-7 UAA), but it wasn't enough as Emory (14-4, 5-2 UAA) rolled to its fourth-straight win to remain in a first-place tie at the mid-point of the UAA season.
Cristiano scored 22 in the first half on 11-of-13 shooting, but the rest of NYU shot just 2-for-26 and the Eagles led 45-27 at halftime.
In the second half, the hosts led by as many as 30 before the Violets rallied late to make the final margin 22 points.
NYU scored the first two points of the game, but Emory rallied with a 16-2 run to take a comfortable lead early. The Violets answered with a run of their own to close within four, 20-16, but the Eagles then scored eight of the next 10 points to go ahead by double digits and never looked back.
Cristiano also led the Violets with a game-high-tying eight rebounds.
Romin Williams led five Eagles in double figures with 23 points.
NYU returns to the court for another UAA contest when it hosts the University of Rochester at 8pm on Friday, February 1, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan. Friday's game will be part of the Violets' third-annual Pride Night;
