The New York University baseball team dropped both ends of a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader to Emory University on Saturday, April 28, at MCU Park in Brooklyn. Emory took game one 11-4, before winning the second 10-2.
The games were the second and third of a four-game series between the Eagles (20-17, 11-4 UAA) and the Violets (26-11, 5-10 UAA) that began yesterday and will conclude tomorrow.
GAME ONE RECAP:
Emory opened up the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning before NYU scored a run of its own in the home half of the inning when
Coltrane Tait singled home
Jack Walter.
RBIs from
Ryan McLaughlin and
Jonathan Iaione put the Violets ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the second, and a
Scott Hilbrandt run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth increased the advantage to 4-2.
From there, it was all Emory as the visitors scored a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh to go ahead 7-4. The Eagles scored four more insurance runs in the ninth inning to make the final score 11-4.
Walter led NYU offensively with three hits, while Iaione chipped in with a pair.
GAME TWO RECAP:
Game two was scoreless through three innings when the Eagles broke through with three runs in the fourth inning. NYU answered quickly, getting RBIs from Tait and
Cooper Halpern in the home half of the inning to make the score 3-2.
Emory scored another run in the fifth to go ahead 4-2 and the score remained that way through eight innings of play. In the ninth, however, the visitors scored six more runs en route to the 10-2 series-clinching victory.
Six different Violets recorded one hit in the loss, including McLaughlin, Tait and Halpern, who each also reached base via a walk.
UP NEXT:
The Violets and Eagles will take the field at MCU Park tomorrow at 12pm for the fourth and final game of their series. Before the game, NYU will honor its six graduating seniors as part of its annual senior day ceremony.
