The New York University baseball team improved to 7-0 on the season with a pair of victories over Newbury College (4-4) on Sunday, March 11, in Fort Myers, FL. The Violets defeated Newbury 13-1 in the opener and followed it up with a 12-3 victory in game two.
GAME ONE:
Tim Salvadore started the first game and improved to 2-0 on the season after tossing six shutout innings and only allowing two hits.
The Violets scored a run in each of the first two innings and added three more in the third. A five-run fourth innings broke the game open and NYU increased its lead to 13-0 before allowing a run in the final inning.
Ryan McLaughlin was 3-for-3 and also reached base twice via a walk, while
Coltrane Tait knocked in three runs.
GAME TWO:
Ford Ladd followed up Salvadore's outing with an impressive six-inning gem of his own. The sophomore southpaw struck out a career-high nine, while scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run.
David Conforti's bases-clearing double in the third inning turned a 3-0 lead into a comfortable 6-0 cushion. Tait added to the lead in the fifth with a three-run home run, the second of his career.
Jonathan Iaione was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the NYU offense and Tait finished the contest with five RBI.

NYU returns to action on Monday, when it takes on Alfred State College in Tampa, FL. First pitch is slated for 3pm.
