The New York University women's basketball team suffered a 59-47 setback to the University of Chicago in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, February 9, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.
NYU saw its four-game winning streak snapped and now has an overall record of 12-9 and are an even 5-5 in the UAA, while the 12th-ranked Maroons improved their record to 19-2 and are unbeaten through 10 UAA contests.
The Violets scored the first two points of the game on a pair of free throws from

Chicago used a 11-2 run that bridged the first and second quarters to break the game open and eventually led 31-18 at halftime as the Violets shot just 24.0% (6-of-25) from the field and turned the ball over 12 times in the first half.
The Chicago lead quickly became a game-high 18 as the Maroons opened the third quarter with five-straight points. NYU battled back throughout the second half and was able to cut the deficit to as low as seven on a
Kaitlyn Read layup with just under four minutes to play. A late 6-0 run from Chicago brought the margin back to double-digits in favor of the Maroons, who now lead the UAA by three games with four left on the schedule.
Read led all scorers with 19 points and also recorded six steals.
Taylor Lake (14 points), Mia Farrell (14 points) and Miranda Burt (13 points) led a balanced scoring attack for the Maroons.
