The New York University women's basketball team was defeated 62-46 by the University of Rochester in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, February 18, in Rochester, NY.
NYU's overall record now stands at 14-10 and the Violets are 7-6 in UAA play, while the 16th-ranked Yellowjackets improved to 20-4 on the season and 10-3 in Association play.
Kaitlyn Read opened the game with a three-pointer, but Rochester answered with five straight. The squads traded the lead several times until a 7-0 Yellowjackets' run gave the hosts a 15-9 lead late in the opening quarter. A pair of free throws from Read made the score 15-11 after 10 minutes of play.
Rochester opened the lead to 11, 28-17, on a layup from Alexandra Leslie with 1:31 left in the half. A 7-2 spurt from the Violets made the score 30-24 Yellowjackets at halftime.
Five-straight Rochester points made the margin 11 early in the second half and the Violets were never able to get closer than eight the rest of the way.
A Lena Ethington layup concluded a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter and extended the Yellowjackets' lead to a game-high 18 points with 23 seconds to play. Shaye McGoey answered with a layup to make the final score 62-46.
Read, who was the only Violet with more than six points, finished with 15 on the afternoon. The graduate student also grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded three steals.
Leslie (11 points), Brenna James (11 points) and Lauren Deming (10 points) led a balanced scoring attack for the Violets.
NOTABLES:
- NYU shot 28.8% (17-for-59) from the field and 22.2% (2-for-9) from beyond the arc. The 46 points tied a season low for the Violets.

Annie Barrett came off the bench and made both of her field goal attempts to finish with four points for NYU.

Kayla Patterson, who drew the defensive assignment on the three-time First Team All-UAA forward Leslie, scored six points and recorded a game-high four steals.
The Violets return to the hardwood for their regular-season finale on Saturday, February 24, when they take on Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, beginning at 1 PM.
