Women's Basketball Falls at Stevens

Violets Defeated 60-47 in Hoboken

The New York University women's basketball team suffered a 60-47 setback to host Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, November 28, in Hoboken, NJ.

NYU's record now stands at 2-2, while the Ducks improved to 5-2.

"We never really got into a flow offensively," said NYU Head Coach Meg Barber. "You have to give Stevens credit, though. They did a good job of finding their scorers and getting them open looks."

Annie Barrett opened the scoring on Wednesday, draining a jumper to give the Violets a quick 2-0 advantage. The junior then broke a 2-2 tie with a fast-break layup, but NYU's 4-2 lead was its last of the game as Stevens finished the first quarter on a 9-2 run and led by five after 10 minutes.

Stevens extended its lead to 11 at halftime, but the Violets cut it to seven after three quarters as Olivia Linebarger hit a layup at the buzzer to make the score 44-37 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, the NYU offense went cold as the Ducks scored 11 of the first 13 points in the frame to lead by a game-high 16 with 1:15 left to play. Katie Foos hit a pair of three-pointers in the final minute to help cut the final margin to 13.

Foos led NYU with 15 points, all of which came from three-point range. The sophomore was 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Bianca Notarainni chipped in with nine points, while Linebarger added six to go along with a team-high nine rebounds.

"It was good to see Katie hit some shots tonight," added Barber. "Through four games, we've had a few different players step up offensively. That's nice as teams continue to scout us and try to key in on our top offensive players."

Jess Broad led all scorers with 17 points to help the Ducks avoid a second-straight loss.

NYU returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Westfield State University at 1pm at the Sportsplex in Manhattan. The Violets will hold their annual alumnae game prior to the contest against the Owls.
