The New York University baseball team was defeated 4-2 by visiting Brandeis University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, April 14, at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
The contest was the first of a four-game series between the Violets (12-8. 1-4 UAA) and Judges (2-14, 1-8 UAA) this weekend in Brooklyn.
"They executed in big situations today, that was the difference," said NYU Head Coach
Doug Kimbler. "They were able to get a few big hits with two outs."
Brandeis struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the second, before NYU answered with a run on an RBI-single from
Will McKenna in the home half of the inning.
The Violets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when
Jonathan Iaione hit a home run off the scoreboard in left centerfield.
The Judges were able to break the tie in the eighth inning with a pair of runs to go ahead 4-2.
Cameron Serapilio-Frank started on the mound for NYU and pitched into the eighth inning for the first time this season. The junior tossed 7.1 innings and struck out four.
"For the second consecutive week, Cameron has showed us that he is developing into a true #1 pitchers for our staff." added Kimbler.
Sean O'Neill went the distance on the mound for Brandeis and stuck out five en route to his second victory of the season.
NYU and Brandeis will play games two and three of the series tomorrow back at MCU Park. The first game of the doubleheader is slated to begin at noon.
