Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Brandeis

Violets' Postseason Fate To Be Announced on Monday

The New York University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Brandeis University in both teams' regular-season finale on Saturday, November 4, in Waltham, MA.

NYU finished the regular season with a 10-5-3 overall record and 2-3-2 in the ultra-competitive University Athletic Association (UAA). Brandeis concluded the regular season 11-3-3 overall and also 2-3-2 in UAA action.

After a scoreless first half in which neither team sent a shot on goal, NYU freshman Nalani Ogawa found the back of the net at the 67:00 mark. The rookie defender connected on a free kick from roughly 25 yards out.

The Violets could not hold on to their lead, however, as the Judges tied the contest just under 10 minutes after Ogawa's tally. Julia Jaffe took a through ball from teammate Hannah Maatallah and chipped it over NYU goalkeeper Sophia Danielsen to knot the score at one apiece.

Each team had chances late in regulation and through both overtimes, but Danielsen and Brandeis goalkeeper Frankie Pinto were able to keep the ball out of the net.

The Judges had the best opportunity in extra time as Samantha Schwartz took a free kick from just outside the box. Schwartz's kick looked destined for the goal, but bounced off the crossbar.

FYI:

- Danielsen made four saves for NYU.

- Maddie Pena led the Violets with four shots.

- Saturday's result was the third tie between NYU and Brandeis in the last four years. The squads also played to a 1-1 tie in last year's regular-regular finale before the Judges made a run to the NCAA Tournament's Final Four.

NYU will now wait and see if it has been selected for postseason play. The NCAA Championship and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament fields are scheduled to be announced on Monday afternoon.
