Men's Soccer Falls in UAA Play vs. #15 Chicago

Maroons Defeat NYU 3-0 at Gaelic Park

The New York University men's soccer team lost 3-0 to the University of Chicago in University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Friday, October 27, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

NYU (8-6-1, 0-5-0 UAA) goalkeeper Grant Engel tied his career-high with 10 saves, but Chicago (14-2-0, 4-1-0 UAA) still found the back of the net three times.

The game was scoreless until Carter Romero put the visitors ahead 1-0 28:38 into the first half. Romero was able to stay onside as Andre Abedian sent a cross into the box and finished easily.

Five minutes before halftime, the Maroons doubled their lead as Gary Zhao beat Engel inside the near post. Zhao's goal was assisted by Tommy Tentuta.

The final Chicago goal came from Max Lopez, who leads the UAA in that category with 15. Lopez headed in a free kick from Dayo Adeosun at 58:12.

NYU's best scoring chance came early in the second half as Ricardo Mitrano sent a free kick around the Chicago defense, but it was saved by Maroons' goalkeeper Aaron Katsimpalis.

Katsimpalis, who made his first-career start, finished with four saves to post the Maroons' seventh shutout of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Chicago, which was ranked 15th in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, outshot NYU 24-5. Shots on goal were 13-4 in favor of the Maroons.

- Matteo Carrieri-Russo led the Violets with a pair of shots, while Matthew Koh finished with a game-high six for Chicago.

- Engel is now 8-6-1 this season.

The Violets return to action on Sunday, October 29, when they host Washington University in St. Louis for their home finale. Kickoff is slated for 11:00am back at Gaelic Park, and NYU's three seniors will be recognized prior to the contest.
