The New York University women's volleyball team completed play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 on Sunday, October 1, in Cleveland, OH.
The Violets (3-15, 0-3 UAA) dropped a four-set match to host Case Western Reserve University (13-7, 2-1 UAA) by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 15-25, 25-22.
NYU led by as many as four points in the opening set, and were still ahead 13-11 when the Spartans went on an 8-0 run to take the lead for good. The Violets never led in the second set.
The third set was a complete turnaround, as the Violets broke a 3-3 tie with a 6-0 run to claim the lead for good as the advantage grew to 10 points on several occasions..
However, NYU could not sustain the momentum throughout the final set. The Violets did hold the lead through most of the first half of the set, grabbing a four-point advantage, 10-6, at one point. Still leading 14-11, NYU could not hold the lead as Case Western scored the next eight points. The Violets did pull within two at 24-22, but a Spartans' kill ended the match.
"The team showed improvement from the end line and challenged the opponent's passers several times over the course of the weekend," said Head Coach
Jolie Ward. "We are also hitting at a higher percentage, overall."
