The New York University women's basketball team was defeated by host University of Rochester 68-49 in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday evening, January 27, in Rochester, NY.
NYU (10-7, 0-6 UAA) opened the scoring with a free throw from freshman
Shaye McGoey, but Rochester (13-4, 4-2 UAA) answered with four straight points and would never look back.
The hosts led 15-7 after one quarter and opened up the second frame on an 11-0 run to put the Violets in a large hole early, The Yellowjackets led by as many as 24 in the second quarter and eventually took a 39-21 lead into the locker room at half time.
Rochester opened the third quarter in similar fashion, scoring the first eight points to lead by 26 with 8:11 left in the frame. NYU responded with a 10-0 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters to keep the game within striking distance, but ultimately fell by 19.
Alexandra Leslie, who entered the game as the UAA's second leading scorer (23.1 ppg) led all players with 18 points, while McGoey led the Violets with 13.

Simone Jacques had an impressive game for the Violets, totaling seven points and and a game-high-tying eight rebounds. The senior captain is averaging 7.5 ppg over the past four contests.
"Simone has always been a star at whatever role she's needed to play during her career," said NYU Head Coach
Lauren Hall-Gregory. "We've asked her to lead the bench and run the scout team for three years and she excelled. She has a new role now, and brings the same enthusiasm and consistency. I'm thrilled for her."

- Rochester was the fourth 2015-16 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team NYU has played through 17 games this season. NYU beat Stevens Institute of Technology in its season opener and fell to Carnegie Mellon University and Washington University in St. Louis in UAA play.
The Violets complete their four-game UAA road trip on Sunday, January 29, when they travel to Atlanta, GA, to take on Emory University. Tip-off against the Eagles is set for 2:00pm.
