Women's Basketball Falls to Case Western Reserve

Violets Return to Action Sunday vs. Carnegie Mellon

The New York University women's basketball team was defeated by University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Case Western Reserve University 79-52 on Friday evening, January 13, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.

NYU dropped to 10-3 overall and 0-2 in UAA play, while CWRU improved to 10-3 on the season and 2-0 in Association action.

The Violets trailed by as many as nine in the first quarter and were never able to get back in the game as the Spartans took a 43-22 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans once again dominated en route to the 27-point win. It was their largest margin of victory this season.

"This is the UAA," said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "We just have to leave this one behind."

Hillary Hellman, who entered the contest as the Spartans' leading scorer, led all players with 19 points.

Kayla Patterson paced the Violets with 11 points.

NOTABLES:

- Mikaela Pyatt joined Patterson in double figures. The junior forward finished with 10 points.

- The Violets out-rebounded Case Western Reserve 33-32. Liv Linebarger led the way for NYU with six.

- Nine different Violets scored in the game, including Mikaela Read, who tallied a season-high five points in 10 minutes of action.

"When you come to NYU, you're a tough, resilient young woman. That's who you are," Hall-Gregory added. "We need to execute better, follow the game plan and get ready for the next game."

The Violets will return to the court for another UAA contest on Sunday, January 15, when Carnegie Mellon University comes to Manhattan. Tip-off at the Sportsplex is set for 1:00pm.
