The New York University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday, September 2, on day one of the NYU Labor Day Invitational at the Hunter SportsPlex in Manhattan.
In the opening match of its season, NYU fell to Skidmore College in four sets. After dropping the first two frames 25-21 and 25-19, the Violets did not quit, rallying to win the third set 25-14. Ultimately, the Thouroughbreds took the fourth set 25-18 to clinch the victory.
NYU took the court against Rivier College later in the day, only to fall to the Raiders in three sets. Rivier and the Violets played two extremely tight sets to open the match and the Raiders were able to prevail in both, defeating NYU 26-24 and 27-25 to take a 2-0 lead into the third set. Rivier then took the third set 25-16 to complete the sweep.

Gretchen Cash each had 10 kills to lead the Violets.
"Our middle attackers are doing a great job staying aggressive and leading the team offensively," said NYU Head Coach
Jolie Ward. "We will look to work on other aspects of our game to help them continue to flourish."
- Cash recorded a .529 hitting percentage, tallying 10 kills in 17 chances.

Daryl Mitchell dished out 22 assists to pace NYU.

Grace Napolitano collected a match-high 24 digs.

Shelby King and Cash paced the Violets with eight kills each.
- Mitchell once again led NYU in assists, dishing out 33 helpers in the three-set loss.

Paighton Miller finished with 13 digs to lead the Violets.
NYU will return to action tomorrow when it concludes the Labor Day Invitational with a pair of matches against Plattsburgh State Univeristy and Ramapo College. First serves are scheduled for 12:30pm and 4:30pm, respectively.
