The New York University men's basketball team received an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, announced on Monday, February 29.

The Violets, who haven't made the tournament since 2012, will travel to Newport News, VA. That four-team site will be hosted by Christopher Newport University.

NYU will open play on Friday night, March 4, as the Violets face neighboring Brooklyn College at 5:30 pm. The other Friday match-up pits host host Christopher Newport against Lycoming College for a scheduled 7:30 pm tip.

The winners will play a Second Round game on Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 pm.

The Violets finished the regular season with a 20-5 overall record, including a 9-5 mark in the University Athletic Association (UAA). This was the first time NYU has eclipsed the 20-win mark since its previous trip to the NCAA Championship back in 2011-12.
