Women's Basketball Falls in NCAA Second Round

Violets End Season 22-5 Overall

The New York University women's basketball team's successful 2014-15 campaign came to an end on Saturday, March 7, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. The Violets fell to Amherst College 70-47 in the Second Round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

NYU (22-4) finished the season with its most wins since it went 23-5 in 2008-09. That was also the last season in which the Violets advanced past the First Round of the NCAA's.

"This was an outstanding season; I'm really proud," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "We've come a long way in three seasons."

After opening up the game on a 6-2 run, the Violets fell victim to an Amherst streak that they were unable to recover from. The Jeffs scored the next 17 points to go ahead 19-6. They would not relinquish the lead from that point on.

"Today wasn't our day, and that happens," continued Hall-Gregory. "Amherst is a great team and they were able to capitalize on our inability to score early in the game."

Amherst took a 32-12 lead into the locker room at halftime, and opened the margin to as many as 26 late in the second half.

Toward the end of the contest, NYU junior forward and team captain Megan Dawe scored her 1,000th career point. The 6-foot, Santa Clarita, CA, native finished with a team-best 19 points and grabbed a team-high-tying seven rebounds.

Highlights:

- Melissa Peng had a game-high-tying five assists in a team-best 34 minutes. The senior point guard finished her career with 353 assists, good for second in program history.

Emily Rowe tallied eight points and four rebounds for the Violets.

- Lindsey Oldshue added six points, while Amy Harioka chipped in with five.

In three seasons under Hall-Gregory a scoach, the Violets have amassed a 52-26 (.667) record and earned two at-large NCAA Championship bids.
