The New York University baseball team conluded its first University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Sunday, March 15, with a 12-0 loss to the University of Rochester at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, FL.
With the loss, the Violets now sport a 3-8 overall record, including a 2-6 record in UAA play, while the Yellowjackets have played all eight of their games this season at the Association Championship and are 4-4 overall.
"I think the overall experience for the guys was really good," said NYU Head Coach Doug Kimbler.Trailing just 1-0 in the top of the third, NYU had its best chance to put runs on the board against Rochester. With one out,
Peter Finch drew a walk and with two outs
Christian Bloom singled to center to put men on first and second. Unfortunately, the Violets were unable to convert and the Yellowjackets followed with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning.
NYU was able to get runners in scoring position two more times, moving men to second base in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to bring them home each time.
"When we started the recruiting process we came in with no expactations, and we were the same when we came down to Florida for UAA's," continued Kimbler. "We got to come down here and see some really good teams and take away some really good experience from that. Now that we're 11 games in, when we get home we know who we are and we can start to put some expectations on this team."NOTABLES:- Bloom was 2-for-3 on the day and leads NYU with a .387 batting average through 11 games.
