Women's Soccer Falls at Brandeis 1-0

Violets Complete Regular Season

The New York University women's soccer team was defeated by Brandeis University 1-0 in the regular-season finale for both teams on Saturday, November 7, in Waltham, MA.

The University Athletic Association (UAA) contest was decided in the 35th minute when the Judges' Lea McDaniel scored off an assist from Jessica Morana to record the lone goal of the game.

"The goal was a bit unlucky, but the team responded really well," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "The players kept pushing for the equalizer and believing they were going to get it even in the last seconds."

NYU (12-5-1, 2-4-1 UAA) managed only one shot on goal in the game, that one coming off the foot of Melissa Menta at 18:54. For the game, Brandeis (14-2-3, 3-2-2) outshot the Violets 13-6 overall and 5-1 in shots on goal.

The Violets' last chance to tie the score came in the final two minutes, but Megan Carver's shot sailed over the net.

"Megan had a couple of good chances early in the first half that went just over the bar," Canning explained. "Her other solid chance late in the game also went just over."

Brandeis entered the contest ranked #11 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), while the Violets were at #27.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Cassie Steinberg recorded four saves for NYU.

- Carver led the Violets with three shots.

- Alexis Grossman recorded the shutout for Brandeis.

"I was proud of the whole team's effort and the positive energy they showed in a hard-fought match," Canning said.

The 2015 regular season is now complete for NYU, and the Violets await a potential postseason bid.
