Basketball Set to Begin UAA Play This Weekend

Both Violet Squads Open Up Saturday at Brandeis

Men's basketball Head Coach Joe Nesci (L) and women's basketball Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory look to begin UAA play with wins over Brandeis on Saturday.

The New York University men's and women's basketball teams will open up University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, January 10, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Both teams will square off against the host Judges, with the women's squad opening the doubleheader at 1:00 pm followed by the men's game at 3:00 pm.

Picked to finish second in the UAA this season, the Violet men are off to an 8-2 start led by the frontcourt tandem of Evan Kupferberg and Costis Gontikas. Kupferberg currently ranks third in the UAA in points per game (19.1) and leads the Association in rebounds per game (11.1), while Gontikas ranks seventh in points per game (14.5) and sixth in rebounds per game (7.5). Last season, Head Coach Joe Nesci's squad opened up UAA play with a 64-58 victory over Brandeis in Manhattan.

The NYU women, also picked to finish second in the UAA, are off to an undefeated start at 10-0 and are currently ranked #8/#9 (d3hoops.com / USA Today Coaches Poll) nationally. Megan Dawe leads the Violets in points per game (13.5), while Emily Rowe is the squad's leader in rebounds per game (8.3). Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory's team will look to build on their 2013-14 UAA record of 9-5, which included two victories over Brandeis.

Live video and live stats (men | women) will be available for both games of Saturday's doubleheader at Brandeis.
