Violets Prep for Clash with #3 Washington-St. Louis

USA Today Poll | D3hoops.com Poll

The New York University women's basketball team has begun the season with a 14-0 record, its best start since the 2001-02 season, and is now ranked #7 in both the D3hoops.com pollandUSA TodaySports Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The ranking is the highest for the Violets in either poll since November 27, 2007.

NYU has stayed undefeated behind a balanced attack, led by captain Megan Dawe's 13.4 points per game. In addition, three other Violets are averaging at least nine points per game -- Kaitlyn Read (9.7), Emily Rowe (9.4) and Amy Harioka (9.4).

In addition to scoring, that trio of sophomores -- Read, Rowe and Harioka -- has been contributing in a number of ways. Read leads the Violets in assists (3.9) and steals (4.0) per game, and is second in scoring, rebounding (5.4 rpg) and minutes per game (23.1 mpg). She also ranks fifth in the NCAA in steals per game as of January 11. Rowe leads NYU in shooting percentage (.547) and rebounding (7.9 rpg), while Harioka leads the squad in three-point shooting percentage (.510) and free-throw shooting percentage (.938).

NYU puts its 14-0 record, including a 3-0 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) play, on the line against another highly-ranked, undefeated UAA squad in #3 Washington University-St. Louis on Friday, January 23. Tip-off between the two squads is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Violet Nation, the official fan base of NYU Athletics, will be presenting a "White Out" that night for the women's and men's basketball doubleheader against the Bears, which begins at 6:00 pm. Fans are encouraged to wear white shirts and white Violet Nation rally towels will be provided.
