Women's Basketball Falls at Rochester

Violets Drop to 8-5 in UAA Play

The New York University women's basketball team split its weekend University Athletic Association (UAA) roadtrip on Sunday afternoon, February 23. The Violets fell 71-62 to the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, evening the season series with the Yellowjackets.

NYU (19-5, 8-5 UAA) led Rochester 33-27 after the first half, but foul trouble plagued the Violets all game. The Yellowjackets (11-13, 5-8)  were able to outscore NYU 44-29 in the second half, shooting 23-of-30 from the charity stripe.

Overall, Rochester was 31-of-39 (79.5 percent) from the foul line and NYU was called for 31 personal fouls -- the Yellowjackets finished with 18.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore co-captain Megan Dawe led all scorers with 19 points. She also grabbed three rebounds in just 22 minutes due to foul trouble.

- Freshman guard Kaitlyn Read had another steady game, coming away with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double and third of her career. She fouled out after playing 34 minutes.

- Sophomore co-captain guard Maya Wasowicz scored nine in the first half and finished with 11 points overall. She added three assists, a rebound and a steal.

- Freshman guard Amy Harioka played 21 minutes and also fouled out. She finished with six points, two steals and a rebound.

- Junior co-captain point guard Melissa Peng chipped in five points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a game-high 37 minutes.

- Freshman forward Lindsey Oldshue contributed five points, six rebounds, two assists, and a block.

NYU will be back in action next weekend, Sunday, March 2, for its final regular season game of the year. The Violets will tip-off at 12:00 pm in Waltham, MA, against Brandeis University.
