NYU 72 Farmingdale State 51

The New York University women's basketball team defeated Farmingdale State College 72-51 on Tuesday night, December 9, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

The Violets (8-0), who entered the contest ranked #10 by D3hoops.com and #11 in the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Poll, were led by center Emily Rowe, who had team highs with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her third-career double-double. Forward Megan Dawe also scored in double figures during the victory over the Rams (3-3), chipping in 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.

"I thought we moved the ball really well tonight," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "A lot of players got good looks at the hoop. We continue to be a team that on any given night a different player can step up. I think when we get into conference play that will be really important."

NYU controlled the play from the opening tip to the closing whistle, never traling in the contest. En route to their 21-point victory, the Violets stretched out their lead to as many as 38 points midway through the second half. In addition, the home team saw a large contribution from its bench players. NYU outscored Farmingdale State 42-9 in that category.

The Violets also controlled the offensive and defensive boards, outrebounding the Rams 21-18 and 37-24, respectively, and 58-42 overall.

"In the first half we did a good job on the defensive boards, which set the tone for us offensively," continued Hall-Gregory.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Overall, all 16 Violets played no less than four minutes on Tuesday night, with 12 playing at least 10 minutes and none playing more than 19.

- NYU outscored Farmingdale State in points in the paint (36-26), points off turnovers (15-12) and second-chance points (23-13).

- Guards Amy Harioka and Maya Wasowicz each contributed nine points for NYU. Harioka was 3-of-5 from the floor, 2-of-2 from the free-throw line and added two assists. Wasowicz grabbed two rebounds and had an assist and a steal.

- Forward Mikaela Pyatt played a career- and team-high 19 minutes, registering seven points and three rebounds.

- Guard Drew Cabral led all players with five assists on the night. She also contributed three rebounds, two points, two steals, and a block.

- Guard Melissa Peng had four helpers, as well. The senior co-captain finished with three points, two rebounds and two steals.

The Violets will return to the court after the holiday break when they host the 2015 NYU Holday Classic at Coles. They begin against Swarthmore College on Saturday, January 2, at 5:00 pm, followed by Sunday, January 3, at 4:00 pm vs. William Smith College.
