Box Score

Kyle Stockmal scored his 1,000th career point, but the New York University men's basketball team fell 71-61 at Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, February 8, in Cleveland, OH.

Stockmal entered the game needing just two points to become the 29th Violet to reach 1,000, but he got much more than that. He finished with a game-high 20 points, eclipsing 1,000 on his first shot of the game, a three-pointer at the 17:32 mark of the first half.

NYU (13-8, 3-7) led by nine with 11:46 to play, but the Spartans (10-11, 3-7) came all the way back. Max Wein's layup with 5:34 left pulled the Violets to within one, but they would be held to no field goals and just one free throw the rest of the way.

Highlights

- NYU controlled the opening five minutes of the game, jumping out to a 12-2 lead – its largest of the game – after Stockmal sank his second triple.

- However, Case fought all the way back and took a six-point lead, 37-31, into the locker room.

- The Violets outscored the Spartans 18-4 to open the second period and eventually went up nine on a Carl Yaffe three-pointer. But, they would convert just three field goals over the final 11:46 as Case took over, led by Dane McLoughlin, who had nine points in the final 10 minutes.

- Stockmal finished 8-9 at the free-throw line in his 20-point effort, including sinking five in a row at one point after being fouled on a three-point attempt and a Spartan being called for a technical.

- Devin Karch and Yaffe had nearly identical lines. Karch totaled 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Yaffe had 12 points, eight boards and four helpers. Max Wein added 11 rebounds.

- Austin Fowler and Tim Chung each had 16 for Case, with Fowler adding nine rebounds. David Thompson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards, while McLoughlin finished with 11 points.

NYU is back on the court on Sunday, February 10, when it travels to Pittsburgh, PA, to face Carnegie Mellon University. Tip-off is at noon.
