Men's Basketball Suffers First Loss of Season in OT at Stevens

Violets Fall to Stevens on the Road

The New York University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, December 10, 68-65 in overtime at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

The loss to the Ducks (4-3) is just the second in the all-time series. NYU (6-1) was led by senior co-captain guard Ryan Tana, who poured in a game-high-tying 17 points along with six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

The Violets were able to force overtime by outscoring Stevens 33-27 in the second half after trailing by as much as 16 points in the first half. Unfortunately, NYU was unable to overcome the quick 5-0 run the Ducks went on to start the overtime period.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Tana shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

- Sophomore forward Evan Kupferberg scored 14 points while pulling down seven boards.

- Sophomore forward Patrick Burns scored eight points with three rebounds.

- Junior forward Adam Xu scored seven points, with six rebounds and two steals.

- Four Ducks scored in double figures in the contest.

The Violets return to action after the holiday break when they host Immaculata University at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan on Monday, December 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
