The New York University men's basketball team was defeated 80-61 by Emory University n a University Athletic Association (UAA) game in Atlanta, GA, on Sunday, January 27. The Eagles improved to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in the UAA, while NYU dropped to 12-6 and 2-5.
The Violets were unable to overcome a powerful Emory offense that averages over 84 points per game. The Eagles shot 53.3% from the field and were able to use a 30-5 advantage in points off turnovers to propel them to victory.
Highlights:

Kyle Stockmal led NYU with 21 points, shooting 4-7 from three-point range and connecting on seven of 10 attempts from the free-throw line.
- Two Violets narrowly missed double-doubles.
Max Wein grabbed 11 rebounds and contributed nine points, while
Carl Yaffe netted 15 points and had nine boards.
- Yaffe now has 1,250 points, putting him in 11th place on NYU's all-time scoring list. He is now only one point behind former teammate
Andy Stein for 10th place.

Costis Gontikas had another strong showing, scoring six points on an efficient 3-4 from the field in a career-high 20 minutes.
"We made a strong run at them late in the second half. We had an opportunity to cut it to single digits but just couldn't push through," said Head Coach Joe Nesci.
The Violets will return to the floor for a home game against #2 University of Rochester on Friday, February 1. The game is slated to be a Tear It Up! event, and tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
