Women's Basketball Falls to Case

Spartans Defeat Violets 57-42

Lem had 10 points and four steals for NYU.

The New York University women's basketball team dropped to 0-2 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play with a 57-42 loss to Case Western Reserve University on Friday, January 11, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
 
The Violets (7-6, 0-2) hit a three to open the game but never led again. The Spartans (9-4, 1-1) led by as much as 14 early in the second half, though NYU twice cut the deficit to six. Both times, however, Case responded with runs to go back up double digits.

Highlights
 
- Megan Dawe paced NYU with 13 points and nine rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.
 
- Nicole Lem contributed 10 points, four steals and three boards.
 
- Cassidy Jourdan also had 10 points, nine of which came from downtown.
 
- Melissa Peng doled out four assists to go along with four points and three steals in 36 minutes. Riley Wurtz also played 36 minutes, scoring four points and pulling down nine rebounds.
 
- Evy Iacono, the UAA's top scorer, led Case with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Brooke Orcutt added 14 points and seven boards off the bench.
 
“Our defensive effort and intensity were exactly what we asked for,” said Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. “We were a few missed layups and free throws from being right there at the end.”
 
The Violets are back in action for another UAA contest on Sunday, January 13. The squad hosts Carnegie Mellon University at Coles at 2:00 pm.
