Two big first-half runs ultimately ruined New York University's regular-season finale, resigning the Violets to a 90-65 loss to Brandeis University in a battle of University Athletic Association (UAA) rivals Saturday afternoon at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, MA.

Chrissy Kilmurray posted team highs of 14 points and nine rebounds for the Violets (13-12, 5-9 UAA), who will now wait until Monday for word of a potential Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Metropolitan Tournament invitation. In their final regular-season games, Hailey Kimball scored 13 points and went 6-for-7 at the charity stripe while Jen Hum-Traverso added 10 tallies.

NYU led 6-5 at the outset, but an 11-0 burst put the Violets in a 16-6 hole. After they climbed within 18-12, the Judges (16-8, 9-5 UAA) reeled off 18 unanswered tallies while holding NYU scoreless for 5:36 to secure a commanding 37-12 cushion 5:45 before halftime.

Jessica Chapin scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half, including nine straight as Brandeis broke the game open, while Shannon Hassan chipped in 15 of her 19 points during the opening 20 minutes as the home squad shot 70.8% (17-for-24) in taking a 47-23 halftime lead. Chapin, who added 10 boards and eight assists, hit all six of her first-half attempts, including three conversions from beyond the three-point arc.

Conversely, the Violets shot 23.3% (7-for-30) in the opening half and 30.9% (21-for-68) overall.
