New York University begins its postseason push with a three-game road trip, starting Friday at 8 p.m. against University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Emory University in Atlanta. Emory will provide a video webcast and live stats.
Ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III East Region, the Violets (15-7, 6-5 UAA) will look to avenge a 73-59 setback against the Eagles (14-8, 6-5 UAA). Both teams are tied for third in the UAA standings, one game behind Brandeis University.
However, NYU would finish no worse than tied for second by defeating Emory, the University of Rochester (Sunday, noon) and Brandeis University (Feb. 27, 3 p.m.). A 9-5 finish in UAA play would be the Violets' top showing since they tied for second in 1997-98. NYU captured the 1992-93 and 1993-94 Association titles, while also taking second in 1994-95.
NYU will try to avoid its third-straight loss and a season sweep Friday night against Emory, against which it is 30-16 all-time. In their victory on Jan. 22 in Manhattan, the Eagles outscored the Violets, 41-25, in the second half. Keith Jensen led all scorers with 18 points for NYU.
In the teams' last meeting in Atlanta, NYU was victorious 57-55 on Jan, 23, 2009.
