Women's Basketball Returns to Action With Road Test at Skidmore

Second-year head coach Stefano Trompeo's squad faces its second-straight road test Thursday at Skidmore.

New York University's women's basketball team will end an eight-day respite Thursday evening when it travels to Saratoga Springs, NY, for a 6 p.m. tip-off against Skidmore College.  Live stats will be provided by Skidmore.

When the Violets last took the court, they improved to 4-1 with an impressive 78-51 victory at the Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Nov. 24.  NYU enjoyed one of its finest first halves ever, shooting a blistering 69.0% (20-for-29) in the opening half en route to taking a 50-20 lead after 20 minutes.

Jen Hum-Traverso earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Co-Athlete of the Week accolades after scoring 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting, including a 4-for-4 effort on three-pointers, in 21 minutes against Polytechnic.  Chelsea Blake (13 points, 4 steals), Grace Carmen (12 tallies, 6 boards) and #Maggie Ely (career highs of 10 points and 6 rebounds) contributed to a balanced Violet effort as the team produced a season high in points scored.

This will be the second of three consecutive road contests for NYU, a swing that ends Monday, Dec. 7, with a 5 p.m. tilt at intracity rival Hunter College.

Skidmore improved to 4-0 by holding off Hartwick College, 55-53, on Tuesday.  The Thoroughbreds have held all four of their opponents to fewer than 54 points while recording three triumphs of six points or less.  Christina Gargiso (12.5 ppg, 2.5 spg, 52.4 FG%) and Megan Gaugler (12.0 ppg, 4.3 apg, 3.3 spg, 40.7 3FG%) have led the way thus far.
