New York University men's soccer completed its two-game Pennsylvania road trip on Sunday with a 5-1 victory over Misericordia University at Mangelsdorf Field at the Anderson Athletic Complex in Dallas, PA.
The Violets scored a second-straight wire-to-wire win.
"Overall, another good team performance," Head Coach Kim Wyant said. "It was a good attacking performance with goal contributions by multiple players."
The Violets wasted little time getting on the board, as Keyon Namdar opened the scoring just 1:16 into the match off a ball from Demir Calkap to give NYU an early 1-0 advantage.
Misericordia responded with an opportunity of its own, but NYU goalkeeper Gabino Talisayon denied Aiden Boyer's attempt to preserve the early lead.
NYU doubled its advantage in the 7th minute. Following a Misericordia foul, Calkap converted from the penalty spot, delivering a goal to make it 2-0.
The Violets struck again less than six minutes later. Namdar set up Luke Vilary for NYU's third goal in the 12th minute, giving Namdar an assist to go along with his opening score.
NYU continued to control the opening half, generating additional attempts from Eric Wainer, Kyle Sakalosky, Audric Ma and Giulio Potenti before adding another goal late in the period.
In the 42nd minute, Colton Jensen connected with Sandy Duggal, who finished the opportunity for NYU's fourth goal of the afternoon. The Violets entered halftime holding a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Mark Shields put two shots on goal in the opening 17 minutes of the second half, while Kacey Pasha also forced a save from the Misericordia defense.
The Violets added their fifth and final goal in the 87th minute. Ben Geist set up Duggal, who found the back of the net for his second goal of the match and extended NYU's advantage to 5-0.
Misericordia broke through in the 89th minute when Noah Romig converted a penalty kick for the Cougars' lone goal of the afternoon.
"I'm disappointed we didn't get the shutout," Wyant said. "Defensive presence will become important throughout the rest of the season."
NYU closed out the 5-1 victory with five goals from four different scorers, highlighted by Duggal's two-goal performance and Namdar recording a goal and an assist.
The Violets return home to Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ, on Tuesday, September 8, when they host Maritime College.
