The New York University women's soccer team kicked off its 2026 campaign with a 1-0 win over Babson College on Tuesday, September 1, in Babson Park, MA.
The Violets started strong, getting off a shot five minutes into the match. They continued to control the first half, holding the Beavers to only one shot.
Sonia Neighbors found the back of the net to open the season scoring 17 minutes into the match. Neighbors battled through defenders outside the box before sending a ball curling into the bottom left of the goal, putting the Violets up 1-0.
Eight different Violets took a shot in the match. Tusca Mahmoudpour led the efforts with five while Julia Spang notched four.
The Violets dominated the statistical efforts out-shooting the Beavers 15-6 overall and 9-3 on-goal. NYU also led 4-1 in corner kicks.
Maddy Tohanczyn made three saves in goal to keep a clean-sheet in the opener.
The Violets will next face #8-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology at home on Saturday, September 5, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ. Kickoff is set for 1pm.
