Baseball Concludes Season Series Against Case Western Reserve

NYU Drops Game Four on Senior Day

New York University (11-16, 5-11) finished its four-game series against Case Western Reserve University (17-17, 5-11), and celebrated eight graduating Violets during Senior Day, on Sunday, April 19, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.
 
The series finale ended in a 12-9 CWRU win to even the overall series at two apiece. NYU won the first two games, including a game-winning homer in game one, and Case Western won the final two highlighted by a walk-off in extra innings in the third game.
 
The Spartans scored five runs in the first inning to capture the first lead of the day. In the bottom half of the frame, CJ Franchini had an RBI double and was later batted in by Matt Dahl to make the score 5-2.
 
In the sixth inning the Violets trailed 10-2 before Dominic Holton and Bruno Damiani each had an RBI to cut NYU's deficit to six.
 
Dahl recorded another RBI in the bottom of the eighth as the Violets now trailed 11-5. With an opportunity to close the gap even further, the Violets had bases loaded with two outs and capitalized scoring another two runs.
 
Case Western scored a run and NYU scored two in the ninth to conclude the series split.
 
Congratulations to the eight graduating student-athletes: Tucker McDonough, Damiani, Harrison Blueweiss, Caden Rothbaum, Kosta Mocklis, Ansel Balmer, Max Oliveira, and Aidan Pawlak.       
 
Notable Stats:
  • Franchini extended his hit streak to 14 games & has had at least 1 RBI in 12 of the 14 games
  • NYU earned its first UAA series split of the season
