Women’s Tennis Defeats Brandeis on Senior Day

Violets Secure 5-2 Victory

The New York University women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with a 5–2 victory against Brandeis University on Saturday, April 18, in the Bronx, NY.

The day centered on the program's Senior Day celebration, an occasion dedicated to honoring the impact and dedication of seniors Kendall Kamerschen and Aditi Narayan.

In doubles play, the Violets were only able to secure one win, ultimately conceding the doubles point.

The pairing of Norah Staunton and Sophia Wright provided a major highlight at the No. 3 spot, putting together a clinical performance to win 6–3.

The energy shifted during singles play, as NYU dug deep to secure the win for their departing seniors, winning five out of six matches

Visnja Gusavac set the tone at the top of the lineup, overcoming a mid-match surge from her opponent to claim a 6–2, 2–6, 6–3 victory at No. 1. At No. 2, Victoria Wang battled to win 6–1, 1–6, 7–5. At No. 3, Sophia Yang kept the pressure on with a 6–3, 6–0 win, and Siona Vallabhaneni added to the tally with a 6–1, 6–4 victory at No. 5. In a fitting tribute to the day's significance, senior Narayan delivered a stellar performance at No. 6, capturing a 6–4, 6–2 win to help seal the team's success.

"It was a typical UAA battle," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Both teams fought until the end. They got the better of us in doubles as we played too defensively. We got off to better starts in singles and Siona controlled her match to pull us to 1-1. Adi gave us the lead and Visnja made it 3-1. Sophia provided the clincher and Vic gave us the last point. This type of battle is what we will see at the championships. It was great to end the regular season and Senior Day with a win."

Following the Senior Day festivities, the Violets will travel to Altamonte Springs, FL, for the UAA Championship starting on Friday, April 24.
