The New York University softball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) weekend play with a single game against host Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, April 17, in Pittsburgh, PA.
NYU came into the game having lost 14 straight contests.
Friday's game was scoreless until the Tartans scored two runs in the third inning.
Neither team scored again until Carnegie Mellon added two more in the sixth inning.
Victoria Negron and
Alyssa Quary had the only two hits for NYU.
Olyvia Rutter pitched and went the distance for NYU, allowing only two earned runs.
The two teams meet up for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of the opener is scheduled for 12:00pm.
