Men’s Tennis Falls to St. Thomas Aquinas

Violets Beaten by Division II Spartans on the Road

The New York University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to NCAA Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday, April 14, in Sparkill, NY.

The loss snapped an impressive eight-match winning streak for the Violets.

In doubles play, the Violets couldn't find the rhythm.

The No. 1 duo of Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens lost their match with a score of 6–3, while at No. 2, the pair of Jeh-Lei Fan and Shido Ito fell 6–4. At No. 3, Louis Frowein and Boris Slesarev were defeated 6–3, ultimately conceding the point to the Spartans.

In singles play, NYU was only able to claim two out of six matches against the Spartans.

At No. 1, von Hellens delivered a strong three-set match with the score of 0–6, 6–2, 6–3 to win, while Frowein also delivered a strong performance at No. 3 with scores of 6–3, 3–6, 7–6.

"It was a good match even though we came out on the wrong end," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We had a chance to play some outdoor tennis in conditions we will likely see at our conference championship. In addition, their level is what we will see as well. It's helpful for our guys to have that experience. We have two tough matches this weekend so I want to see how the team responds."

The Violets return to the courts on Saturday, April 18, for a match against Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.
