Softball Closes Out Series Against CWRU

Violets Fall After Late Rally by Spartans

The New York University softball team closed out its three-game series with a 15-5 loss against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, April 11, at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx, NY.

The teams were tied 5-5 heading into the final inning before a 10-run top of the seventh gave the Spartans the win.

The Violets got on the board first with a two-run top of the first. With a runner on base and one out, a Nicole Cicchetti infield single followed by a throw into the dugout brought in Emma Sung. Cicchetti came home two at-bats later on a Naya Schubel sacrifice fly.

CWRU tied the game in the top of the third and later took the lead in the following inning with two more runs.

NYU got both runs back in the bottom of the fourth after Alyssa Quary scored on an error and Sung walked in another run.

The two teams traded one run each in the fifth inning before going scoreless in the sixth.

The Spartans exploded for 10 in their final time up to bat to secure the win.

Three Violets tallied multi-hit performances, including Cicchetti, Emily Barbire, and Keira D'Errico

NYU will continue its UAA schedule on the road with a three-game series against Carnegie Mellon University starting on Friday, April 17.
