Men's Volleyball Defeats Emmanuel College in Three Sets

Violets Cruise Past Saints

The #8-ranked New York University men's volleyball team got back in the win column with a sweep over Emmanuel College (MA) on Sunday, March 8, in Boston, MA.

The Violets controlled each set and won by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-15.

Despite the opening set being back-and-forth, NYU never trailed. With the Violets ahead 17-13, NYU put down three kills in four rallies to gain a six-point advantage.

Later ahead 22-18, the Violets won three of the final four points to end the stanza.

NYU fell behind 3-2 in the second set before recording back-to-back kills to take the lead for good. The Saints stayed within striking distance, down 11-9, but the Violets strung a 7-2 run together to put the frame out of reach.

Though Emmanuel cut the deficit back down to four, 22-18, NYU once again ended the set by scoring three of the final four points.

Another frame in which the Violets trailed to start, the Saints jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth. However, six straight points from the Violets put them ahead for the rest of the afternoon.

The Saints did manage to get back to within three, 16-13, but were answered with a 9-2 NYU run which ended the match.

As a team, the Violets hit .485 on the day, led by Artyom Derkach and Charlie Clifford, who had seven kills each. Additionally, Devyn Nguyen collected 30 assists on the day.

NYU is next set to play its final non-conference match with a road contest against Baruch College on Thursday, March 12, in New York, NY.
