Men's Volleyball Closes Out Non-Conference Play With Sweep of Baruch

Violets Finish 12-3 in Non-Conference Schedule

The #7-ranked New York University men's volleyball team finished its non-conference schedule with a three-set win over Baruch College on the road on Thursday, March 12, in New York, NY.

Despite a strong fight from the Bearcats, the Violets closed out the sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-20.

Neither team led by more than four in what was a closely contested first set. NYU was initially ahead 10-8 before Baruch later took a 18-15 edge.

The Violets then took the lead for good with a 10-3 run, which effectively ended the set. Emerson Evans and Veer Agarwal had two kills each in the run.

Though NYU fell behind 3-1 to begin the second frame, an 11-2 run put the Violets ahead for the rest of the set.

NYU's lead reached as high 11 as it went on to clinch the set 25-17. Evans added four more kills to his tally in the frame.

In another back-and-forth set, the Violets trailed just once in the fourth but did not lead by more than five. The score also saw five ties.

With NYU ahead 15-11, the Bearcats scored three straight points to get to within one. The Violets immediately gained breathing room, however, with a 4-1 run.

Baruch was unable to cut the deficit to less than three, as NYU closed out the match with a 25-20 set win.

Charlie Clifford led the team with 11 kills on .529 hitting. Devyn Nguyen fell just shy of a double-double with 33 assists and eight digs.

NYU will play five straight United Volleyball Conference (UVC) matches to close out the regular season, starting with Nazareth University at home on Sunday, March 15, at the John A. Paulson Center. The match will also serve as Senior Day for the Violets.
