Softball Opens UAA Play with Brandeis Doubleheader

The New York University softball team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Friday, March 27, with a doubleheader against the Brandeis University Judges.

The two games were held at the Bahoshy Softball Complex on the Fordham University campus in The Bronx.

The Violets fell in both games on Friday evening.

NYU opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Emma Sung singled up the middle, scoring Siena Kiefer, and giving the home side a 1-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Katie Antosiewicz held the visiting Judges scoreless for four innings to start the game.

After Brandeis scored six straight runs over the next two innings, Naya Schubel put the Violets back in striking distance with her third home run of the season. Her shot to left center scored three, and pulled the Violets back to a 6-4 deficit.

The Judges answered back with three runs in the top of the seventh to score a 9-5 win.

NYU struck first in the second game of the night on a well-placed bunt by Keira D'Errico down the third base line, scoring Sarah Huang.

After Brandeis took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, the Violets tied the game in the bottom of the inning, 2-2, on an RBI double by Antosiewicz.

The Judges finished the game scoring six unanswered runs for an 8-2 win.

The UAA foes return to Bahoshy on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. for the final game of the weekend series.
