The New York University baseball team (5-5) ended its Florida trip by splitting its doubleheader against Purchase College (4-8) on Saturday, March 21, in Winter Haven, FL.
NYU led early in game one, but 10 combined runs by the Panthers in consecutive innings gave Purchase the 11-5 win. In game two, NYU dominated from the start to take a 19-5 victory.
Game 1: Purchase College 11-5
Tied 1-1 through the first two innings of game one, the Violets scored three in the top of the third to jump ahead 4-1.
Purchase quickly claimed the lead in the bottom half of the frame, however, scoring six runs. The Panthers extended their lead to 11-4 the following inning by adding another four runs.
NYU scored a run in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 11-5 but could not rally any further.
Game 2: New York University 19-5
NYU scored the game's first run in the bottom half of the first inning and never trailed from then on.
The Violets added on with 10 runs in the third to go up 11-0. The following inning, NYU scored seven more runs to make the score 18-0.
Purchase scored three in the sixth, but NYU responded with one run of its own in the bottom of the frame.
The Panthers scored two runs in the seventh, but this game also concluded after six-and-a-half innings.
Notable Stats:
- Kosta Mocklis has had at least one RBI in five consecutive games (14 RBI on the season)
- NYU only allowed four hits in game two (season-best)
- Peter Farren picked up his first career win & totaled a season-high seven strikeouts
- The 19 runs scored & 23 hits are both season-highs for the Violets
